Media Studies A Level at Stockley Academy

Course description

Studying the media leads to a range of choices of university courses or careers. It develops your confidence and skills in analysing and creating media products, such as magazines and short films. British media industries offer extensive opportunities to develop your career.

 

Course content

You will learn about media companies and how they manufacture and sell media products to audiences and consumers. You will learn how to deconstruct media texts and to create your own media products by using computer packages, such as InDesign, Photoshop and other software.

This is a multimedia course that gives learners a solid foundation in the study of the key concepts of Media Studies. It balances theoretical approaches to analysing media products with opportunities for practical work where students develop the skills and knowledge to make their own media texts.

Entry requirements

Minimum 5 GCSEs A* – C including Maths and English at grade 4 or above. You do not need to have followed a Media Studies course at GCSE.

Assessment

The course is 70% examination and 30% independent coursework portfolio. You will receive regular feedback on drafts with individualised targets on how to improve your grade.
