Citizenship at Isleworth & Syon School for Boys

Course description

At AS Level the specification enables students to develop a range of skills which can be applied far beyond the study of Citizenship. Candidates will address the relationship between the individual, the law and the state and the nature of identities. The AS specification has 2 units: Unit 1: Identity and Democracy Topic list What does it mean to be British? Are we all equal citizens? What are my rights and responsibilities? How are my rights protected? Assessment Written Paper: 1 hour 15 minutes Weighting: 40% of total AS Level marks The question paper consists of two sections: Identity Rights and Responsibilities Each section contains one compulsory source-based question followed by two mini-essay questions. Candidates must answer the compulsory question followed by one mini-essay question in each section. The compulsory question consists of two parts worth 5 and 10 marks. The miniessay questions are worth 15 marks. Unit 2: Community Action and Active Citizenship Topic list Who can make a difference? How can I make a difference? Active Citizenship Skills and Participation. How you will be assessed: Written Paper: 1 hour 30 minutes Weighting: 60% of total AS Level marks The question paper consists of two sections. Section A: Making a Difference This section contains one compulsory source-based question followed by two mini-essay questions. Candidates must answer the compulsory question followed by one mini-essay question. The compulsory question consists of two parts worth 5 and 10 marks. The mini-essay questions are worth 15 marks. Section B: Active Citizenship Candidates must answer one structured question based on their active citizenship participation. Each question consists of four parts worth 5, 15, 15, 25 marks.
