GCSE: Design and Technology - Textiles Technology at Ashby School

Course description

This course is aimed at students with an interest in all aspects of textiles and the world of fashion. It includes designing and making garments for teenagers, adults and children. Students develop an understanding of the fashion industry, covering issues such as design, pattern-drafting, the use and construction of fabrics, methods of decoration and manufacture of garments. Students also have the option of undertaking interior design projects, manufacturing cushions, curtains, playmats, etc

Entry requirements

Students should have an interest in the fashion industry.

Future opportunities

Students can take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology. Alternatively, they may need to strengthen their grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, students may go into a job related to Design and Technology Students may also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of an employer. This course leads to A level Technology and Textiles.
