Information & Creative Technology BTEC Level 3 at LeSoCo

Course description

This course will prepare you for entry to higher education in information technology, and give you the essential knowledge, understanding and skills to progress into a number of specific areas of work, which will incorporate the use of information and communications technology, and move onto a more responsible job role as a programmer/app developer, website designer, database designer/manager or systems analyst. The programme covers these main modules: Communication and Employability Skills; Computer Systems; Information Systems; Impact of the Use of Information Technologies on Business Systems; Software Design and Development; Organisational System Security; Event Driven Programming; Database Design; and Data Analysis and Design. Students learn through a mix of workshops, written assignments, formal teaching and self-study. If you have not already gained a C grade for GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics, working towards this will form part of your programme of study.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grades A*-C; one of which must be GCSE English or GCSE Mathematics. Or successful completion of a Level 2 substantial qualification in a related subject - plus an initial assessment that indicates an appropriate level of English and mathematical ability, and a satisfactory reference.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to the second year of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in IT, on either the software development pathway or the networking and system support pathway. Alternatively, you could apply to progress to higher education at Lewisham Southwark College, studying a foundation degree in the subject. You can also progress onto our Foundation Degree in Business and IT.
