Computer Science A level at The Mandeville School
This course is designed with the computer scientist in mind – it combines theory with practical application.
The course will develop a student’s understanding of programming and allow them to experiment, applying theory and demonstrating their competence.
The course is ideally suited to someone looking to pursue a career in IT technical support, engineering or looking to study a Computer Science course at university.
Students taking this course will learn:
- Fundamentals of programming, data structures, algorithms
- Theory of computation
- Data representation, computer systems and uses of computing
- Computer organisation and architecture
- Bid Data, Databases, communication and networking
5 GCSEs A*-C (including Maths, Science and English). Preferably BTEC First in ICT – achieving a Merit or better.
80% assessed through 5 exams and 20% non-exam based assessment.
