Information Communication Technology AS A2 at Northampton School for Girls

Course description

ICT is at the heart of the majority of commercial, industrial, service sector and scientific organisations. It has a continual and profound effect on the daily lives of everyone in society. This course allows you to understand and evaluate this effect and to develop a flexible approach as hardware and software continues to develop.

Course content

What you will doPRACTICAL:You will learn the advanced features of many pieces of software that you have used before.You will learn how to use the Internet effectively and competently.THEORY:You will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of ICT and the knowledge and skills suitable for participation in an evolving information-based society.

Entry requirements

The ICT course requires students to approach problems in a logical way and then to communicate their findings effectively.  You shoul dhave a GCSE grade C or above in ICT or a pass in GNVQ ICT.


Practical.  AS level - 4 tasks set by the exam board.  A2 - An independent project using ICT to solve a problem for an end user.Theory.  Written papers of a one and a half hour duration.  In addition to this you will have regular assessment using a bank of knowledge tests and pass papers.

Future prospectsThere are many areas that will be opened to you at the end of this course: ·        you can study Information Systems to degree level;·        you can get on the job training;You need to be able to use ICT in any area of employment/higher education that you enter - if you are computer literate you will have better opportunities in the employment world.
