Course description

This qualification is an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfil which can include: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as those roles that work directly with children and young people in the school environment.

Qualification Gained: Level 2 Award in Support Work In Schools. The award is comprised of mandatory and optional units including;

  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • Schools as organisations

This qualification is suitable for those who would like to work in a school support role. The course will also suit you if you are already working in a school and want a qualification that proves your skills and helps you develop your career.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements although candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification.


The course will be assessed by your tutor using a range of methods. This can include written assignments, case studies and tasks set.
