IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at Milton Keynes College

Course description

This Apprenticeship programme is designed for new entrants to a role in the IT & Telecoms sector and to provide progression and re-skilling routes for existing IT Professionals. Apprentices can work in areas such as:

• Software & Web Development
• Technical Support
• Telecommunications
• IT Project Management.

Course content

The City & Guilds Apprenticeships for IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals combines competence-based Qualification and Credits Framework (QCF) units with the opportunity to complete a broader set of industry-recognised certifications, such as Microsoft and Cisco qualifications.

The Apprenticeship is made up of qualifications and learning that will provide apprentices with the skills and knowledge required to become competent in their chosen job role. The technical content includes units for Software Development, Web Development, Technical Support, Telecommunications and Databases.

Entry requirements

To take part in this programme the learner will need:

• ideally 4 GCSEs at grade E or above including Maths and English or an NVQ Level 1 qualification
• enthusiasm for the subject
• good communication skills
• the ability to develop team work skills
• a good reference.


The majority of the programme is assessed in the workplace. However, you will be required to attend College 1 day a week, which will normally lead to a qualification that is achieved by completing assignments. You will also need to gather evidence to demonstrate your competence. You will be allocated a named assessor who will guide and support you throughout your Apprenticeship programme.

Future opportunities

Applicants who complete the programme can look forward to progressing to the IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals Level 3 Apprenticeship programme.
