Further Mathematics AS/A Level at Hazelwick School

Course description

If you really enjoy a mathematical challenge & have been enthused by the more difficult topics in GCSE Mathematics, then you should seriously consider this course.  Further Mathematics can only be taken in combination with Mathematics, leading to 2 separate A levels.  Further Mathematics students will usually do 3 other subjects in Year 12.  In Year 13 most them will do 4 A levels in all. 

Course content

Year 12 - will consist of Further Pure Mathematics & 1 Further Mathematics option.  You will choose from Further Pure 2, Further Statistics, Further Mechanics & Decision Mathematics.

Year 13 - you will study towards 4 exams which will be based on content learned in Year 12 & 13 & will be:-

Further Pure 1

Further Pure 2

Plus 2 from the following:

Further Statistics 1

Further Statistics 2

Decision 1

Decision 2

Further Mechanics 1

Further Mechanics 2

Further Pure 3

Further Pure 4


Entry requirements

Grade 9 in Mathematics or a high Grade 8 with reacher recommendation


There will be 4 exams each lasting 90 mins (75 marks)

Future opportunities

Mathematics A level will be of great benefit to anyone considering a degree in Mathematics or a degree with a large proportion of mathematical content.
