Course description

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Food Preparation and Service is a substantial vocational qualification that will make you highly employable within the hospitality industry through working in our award-winning restaurant, Gaskell’s. 

The qualification is designed to help you enter employment in either Kitchen or Food and Beverage Service areas, or alternatively progress on to further relevant learning and qualifications. 

During this qualification you will work with local employers on structured work placement, within this offer there will be an opportunity for learners to attend a residential trip abroad and for some students to attend a work placement in the 5* Hilton Hotel Malta.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements

Minimum 4 GCSEs A* - D, direct entry.
or
Progression, Level 1 qualification in hospitality and Functional Skills Level 1 in either English or maths.
 

Assessment

Throughout the course you will internally assessed to check and monitor your progress.  Final assessments offering a grade of P/M/D will be; 

• An externally set and marked exam, either written or taken online. 

• An externally set, internally marked cooking assessment that will draw upon skills and techniques from across all units. 

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residential etc. which are payable by all students.

Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international students. 

There will be an approximate cost of £200 for equipment and uniform. Student progressing from our L2 programme will have sufficient equipment to complete this course but may add to their equipment if they wish.
