Sport and Exercise Science (Top Up) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and experience needed to improve physiologically and psychologically and to offer a potential route to further study at Higher Education level. Learners will study an additional 9 modules to build on their knowledge from the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma. This course is for those who wish to pursue a more "sport-science" route.

Course content

Modules covered may include sports injuries, sports development, applied sport physiology, applied sport psychology, biomechanics, enterprise in sport as a business and research projects as well as other optional units to make up the 180 credits required.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have studied at GCSE level and achieved a minimum of grade 5 (grade B) GCSEs in Maths, English, Science and PE and have successfully completed the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma Sport and Exercise Science prior to joining this course.


Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.

Future opportunities

Learners who that complete the course can progress into various career roles, such as leisure assistant, assistant sports coach, or could become involved in the administration of sport and leisure.
