A Level: Economics at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre
Economics is a social science that looks at the economy in which we live and its effects on the wider social environment. Studying Economics will enable you to develop enquiring critical and evaluative opinions about economic issues in the UK and about the global economy.
You will look at the fundamental economic forces that affect our lives: employment, prices, international trade and poverty. Economists are often in healthy debate with each other over these issues and it is this controversy which makes Economics lively and interesting and allows you to make your own judgements and form your own opinions.
Consider Economics if:
- You enjoy debating issues and expressing your point of view.
- You are interested in interpreting and discussing data.
- You want to know more about the UK, EU and world economies.
JC6 general entry requirements, including:
- Minimum of grade 5 at GCSE English.
- Minimum of grade 6 at GCSE Mathematics.
End of year examinations based on multiple choices answers and data response questions, including detailed essay-style questions.
Economics links well with other social science and humanities subjects, sharing an analytical and evaluative approach; the course encourages students to develop an ability to express and support their ideas effectively and build skills in the practical application of maths. It is a useful qualification for future careers or study in finance, business and management.
