Barbering Apprenticeship Intermediate at Derwentside College
A Barbering Apprenticeship is for anyone who’s serious about a barbering career. There are options to suit individual needs and aspirations is ideal for those who wish to expand their salon skills and learn the trade of male grooming
The course contains units which require both practical and written assessment. Practical assessment is completed on paying clients in a realistic salon environment and/or in an employer’s salon.
The Intermediate Apprenticeship programme requires achievement of the following qualifications:
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering
Reduce risks to health and safety
Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
Advise and consult with clients
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Dry and finish men`s hair
Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
Create basic patterns in hair
Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)
The course is delivered with a 3 hour practical sessions followed by 2 hour theory session plus Functional Skills (dependent on GCSE results) one day a week
Minimum four GCSE’s A-D grades, and employed in a salon environment.
Within each unit there is both practical and written assessment.
Practical assessment is completed on paying clients in a realistic salon environment or within an employer’s salon.
There are both written and on-line tests to complete assessment.
Throughout the course learners will build a portfolio of evidence.
There is a direct progression option of Level 3 Barbering. This qualification provides the knowledge and skill to work in a salon as a junior stylist.
Other opportunities could be working on cruise liners, film sets, TV and photoshoots.
