Religious studies at King Alfred's Academy

Course description

Philosophy – Arguments for the existence of God; debates about miracles; the problem of evil and suffering.
Ethics – The relationship between religion and morality; the ethical theories of utilitarianism and situation ethics, sexual ethics; the ethics of war and peace.

Philosophy - Further arguments for and against God’s existence; debates about life after death and religious language.
Ethics – Critiques of the relationship between religion and morality; ethical theories (deontology, natural law, virtue ethics); ethical language; the ethics of punishment.

Entry requirements

Typically students need at the very least 5 or more GCSE’s at grade C or above to be successful on an Advanced Course. There are more than 30 subjects to choose from though some may require more than a C grade.

Students wishing to study this subject will need to achieve a minimum of 5 A*- B qualifications in subjects with a significant literacy content (e.g. English Lit., English Lang., History, Geography, RS, Business, MFL). In addition they will require at least a C grade GCSE in Maths.
