Intermediate Apprenticeship in Plumbing at Rotherham College

Course description

Build your career in construction and learn a skilled trade with our hands-on practical learning that will prepare you for the construction industry.

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, our Construction department hosts first-class facilities, providing you with the perfect foundations to construct a successful career. Whether it’s brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plastering or plumbing, our industry experienced tutors will support you in moving up the career ladder, no matter what level you start at.

The College has strong links with employers such as Willmott Dixon, and our tools are state of the art, thanks to generous donations from Stanley Black and Decker. Previous students have taken part in the HOPE Strategy project; where Rotherham College teamed up with Rotherham Borough Council and charity Action Housing to help renovate derelict houses into fully functioning, modern homes for vulnerable people. There are fantastic opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions such as SkillBuild, as well as the possibility for your work to be entered for the City and Guilds Gold Awards.

Course content

This Apprenticeship is ideally suited to learners who have completed the Plumbing Studies Diploma Level 1 and have gained employment, or a new apprentice employed within the plumbing industry. This qualification will help you develop the skills required of the modern day plumber.

What will I study?

•You will develop your skills in cold water systems, hot water systems, sanitation, central heating systems and drainage systems

•You will learn various plumbing techniques

•You will learn the installation of various pipework, materials and components •You will learn to develop your practical skills and use of craft tools

•You will develop your Functional Skills such as English, maths and IT to support your study and enhance your career prospects

What added value will I receive?

•The Construction department, including plumbing, was awarded a grade one ‘Outstanding’ for its teaching and learning by Ofsted

•The plumbing workshops have been refurbished to a high standard ensuring learners’ needs are met while developing employability skills

Future opportunities

Learners who successfully complete their Intermediate qualification would be encouraged to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Plumbing.
