English Language A Level at The Hazeley Academy

Course description

This course will open up the world of inspiring modern and classic literature. Through reading a wide range of texts from diļ¬€erent centuries, genre and gender, and through exploring an extensive range of views about texts, you will develop your skills in independent criticism and evaluation. You will have the opportunity to discuss and analyse texts at a high level and develop your research and referencing skills. Non-Examined Assessment will allow you to closely focus on a text and to draw upon your own preferred wider reading to support your study.

This is a de-coupled qualification, students will have the opportunity to take their AS at the end of Year 12 and the A Level at the end of Year 13.

Entry requirements

Students should have a minimum grade of a B in GCSE English or English Language.

Future opportunities

This course is duly demanding and synthesises well with most other subject choices, as it supports you in honing independence in the skills of analysing and evaluating. These skills are essential for most types of employment and courses in higher education. A high level qualification in English Literature lends itself to a wide variety of careers, particularly the professions in the civil service, public relations, media, publishing and journalism.
