Textiles (Design and Technology) AS and A2 level at Monks Walk School

Course description

This course appeals to students who have a keen interest in working with textiles, fibres and fabrics and developing skills in Fashion and Design. They will study two units in Year 12 and two in Year 13. One unit is based around the knowledge and understanding of product design and materials and components and the other unit is a coursework project and design folder.

Throughout the course students will demonstrate high level making skills showing precise attention to detail in the manufacture of high quality textile products.

Entry requirements

A*- B GCSE in a D and T subject. If not taken at GCSE, then a successful interview. GCSE C or above in English and Maths. APS: 40 or above.


Assessment for both AS and A2 is through a two hour written examination which is equal to 50% of your marks. The other 50% comes from a coursework project and practical work. All students should be prepared and equipped for a significant amount of practical work throughout the course.

Future opportunities

Students could progress to studying Textiles at degree level or may wish to pursue a foundation course in Art before progressing to a degree in fashion and design. There are many possible career routes such as Fashion Design, Interior Design, Fashion Merchandising and Buying.
