Sport BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Scarborough Sixth Form College
A full time sports programme designed to suit a vast array of students who are passionate about the sports industry. We have a strong tradition of developing student potential and send over 50% of students onto university. Students are encouraged to make the most out of the college years and undertake as many coaching courses and sports leadership events and qualifications as possible. The qualification is equivalent in size to two A Levels and has been designed as a full two-year programme.
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. Employers and professional bodies have also been involved and consulted to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for learners who may choose to enter employment directly in the sport sector.
Learners will study mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology
- Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being
- Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry
- Unit 4: Sports Leadership
- Unit 7: Practical Sports performance
- Unit 8: Coaching for performance
- Unit 9: Research Methods in Sport
- Unit 19: Development and provision of Sport and Physical activity
- Unit 22: Investigating Business in Sport and the Active leisure Industry
- Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport
Learners will also study two optional units.
You will need to meet the level 3 BTEC entry requirements.
The assessment is split into:
Assignments – You will complete a series of tasks set in a work-related scenario which you will tailor to local industry needs.
Tasks – You will complete a task, in controlled conditions, tackling an every day challenge. Some tasks also draw on pre-released information.
Written exams – You will draw on your learning to answer questions in test conditions.
This course is designed for students wanting to pursuit a career within the sports industry such as: opportunities in health and fitness, sport and recreation and the outdoors e.g sports scientist, exercise physiologist, bio-mechanist, sports psychologist, sports medicine, injury treatment, sports dietician, coaching and fitness, sports attendant, fitness instructor, PE teacher, sports coach, sports development officer, sports centre management, professional sports performer, sports promotion, sports ground facility worker or instructors.
