Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Top Up) at Doncaster College

Course description

​This course extends over one year and enables students to progress from the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma to further explore the health and social care sector.

It will further promote knowledge, understanding and skills required to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma (Top UP), HND/Degree programmes  or employment in the health and care sectors

Course content

In addition to the 60credits achieved on the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (1 x GCE A level), learners will be able to achieve a total of 120 credits (equivalent to 2 x GCE A Levels)

The Level 3 (Top Up) Diploma comprises of 5 units  covering a range of Health & Social Care topics

  • Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care*
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Research Methods
  • Nutrition for Health and Social Care
  • Working with Medication

 

Entry requirements

  • Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care at Merit grade and a minimum of 90% attendance.

All applicants must complete an initial assessment in maths and English and attend an interview.

 

Assessment

All assessment is achieved through a range of projects, reports, assignments and presentation. Learners will also complete a reflective log of independent study, study skills development and work experience/placement.

 

Future opportunities

​Successful completion of this course will give learners an opportunity to progress to:

  • Edexcel BTEC Level 3 (Top Up) Extended Diploma
  • HND/Degree programmes including Nursing, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Sociology, Psychology and Criminology.

 This qualification will provide opportunities in careers including Home and Residential Care, some National Health Careers including Health Care Assistant, Family support Worker. After further study this qualification will provide opportunities in careers including Nursing, Social Work, Youth & Community Work, Probation and Allied Health Professions.
