Art A Level at Melksham Oak Community School

Course description

For the AS qualification in Art and Design, students develop a portfolio of work exploring two project themes, ‘The Human Figure’ & ‘Natural Forms’. Students will have the opportunity to investigate a wide range of art experiences, media, techniques and processes throughout the course. They are required to analyse and annotate theirs and the work of others to aid the development of their personal response. The final piece(s) concludes their observational studies, critical analysis & understanding and exploration of materials and techniques.

Course content

The A2 Art & Design course builds and develops skills, techniques and media explored during year 12.

For the A2 qualification in Art and Design, students need to submit one major project that:

  • demonstrates a range of art & design experiences
  • shows evidence of planning and preparation
  • includes a related personal study between 1000-3000 words.
  • concludes in a final piece which shows a considered personal response to their research and experimentation.

The personal study aspect of the project should allow students to place their work within a historical or contemporary context whilst making strong connections to their own work.
