Sportl BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Smestow School

Course description

This is a 60 Credit qualification that consists of four units in year 12 and three units in year 13. The qualification in its entirety is the equivalent to ONE A Level.

Course content

Year 1: Students will study the following units in year 12: Unit 1. Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport Unit 2. Physiology of Fitness Unit3. Assessing Risk in Sport Unit 7. Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Year 2: Students will Study the following units in year 13: Unit 4. Fitness Training and Programming Unit 13. Leadership in Sport Unit 15. Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise

Entry requirements

Students should have achievedBTEC Level 2-Merit GCSE PE- Grade C


Each individual unit, will have a certain period of time allocated to teaching and learning, where students will be expected to gather information from either practical sessions, independent learning tasks or reciprocal teaching activities. After each lesson, students will then be expected to carry out independent study tasks to increase their knowledge base before the assessment week. During the assessment week students will be given on opportunity to consolidate all the information gathered into a summative piece of work. Methods of assessment will vary from unit to unit. However an overview of assessment methods has been provided below. Assessments may include:  Power Point Presentations  Written Reports  Practical Diaries  Lesson Plans  Fitness Sessions  Leadership Festivals  Practical Performances.  Verbal Interviews.
