Politics AS Level at Wheatley Park School
“Government of the people, by the people, for the people” Abraham Lincoln
When you think about it, politics affects almost everything in our lives – from the food we eat to our journey to school. A Level Politics is a challenging and stimulating course which will develop your understanding of key world issues. Your knowledge and understanding of these issues will be developed through debate and discussion as well as lectures, videos, ICT and private reading plus guest speakers. Politics complements a wide range of Arts, Science and Social Science A Levels and can lead to a wide variety of careers, even politics itself!
The AS Politics programme involves developing knowledge and understanding of people and politics in Britain today including the role of political parties and how people participate in our democracy on a day-to-day basis. Through your studies you will be able to work out how politically active, as a country, we really are. It also involves learning about how the UK is governed such as the role of the Prime Minister and Parliament alongside an examination of the key issues currently affecting British politics from devolution to leaving the European Union.
The basic entry requirement for Level 3 courses in Wheatley Park Sixth Form is to complete 8 GCSEs or equivalent, including a minimum of grade 4 in five subjects which must include English and Mathematics.
