Course description

This BTEC Applied Science Level 2 Certificate provides an alternative to GCSE. I This course is ideal for students who: - Enjoy the practical aspects of Science - May wish to pursue a scienctific course in further education - May wish to pursue a scientific career - Prefer portfolio work to examination work - Wish to also gain relevant science work experience - Do not wish to follow the traditional advanced courses Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course provides a specialist work related programme of study. It covers the key scientific knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue a scientific related career or course in further education. This course is a three unit qualification. The three compulsory course units are in Biology and our Environment, Chemistry and our Earth and Energy and our Universe. Method of Assessment: Assessment for this course is based on the achievement of specified outcomes and will be internally or externally assessed depending on the unit that is being studied. Each unit will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction and points will be collected depending on the marks achieved. The final grade will be based on the total number of points gained over the three units.

Future opportunities

Information can be obtained from Mrs Robinson / Miss J. RetourUpon completion of this course it is possible to take a combination of three optional units to gain the BTEC Applied Science Level 2 Extended Certificate. This course and the extended certificate provides a range of possibilities for subjects taken at Post 16 and would enable learners to access Science courses at further education.
