IB Diploma Business Management @ The Leigh Academy at LAT16 Leigh
The Business Management course is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of business management theories, as well as their ability to apply a range of tools and techniques.
Students learn to analyse, discuss and evaluate business activities at local, national and international levels. The course covers a range of organisations from all sectors, as well as the socio-cultural and economic contexts in which those organisations operate.
The course covers the key characteristics of business organisation and environment and the business functions of human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing and operations management. Links between the topics are central to the course. Through the exploration of six underpinning concepts (change, culture, ethics, globalisation, innovation and strategy), the course allows students to develop a holistic understanding of today’s complex and dynamic business environment.

- 5+ A*-C (9-4) grades
- Grade 6 English and Mathematics
Exam Paper 1 – this is based on a pre-released case study. Students will be asked to apply their knowledge to a particular business. This paper counts for 40% of the total mark.
Exam Paper 2 – students will be asked questions about a range of different businesses and will need to use key analytical tools to understand a business scenario. This paper counts for 35% of the total mark.
Coursework – this involves the students using their knowledge to solve a problem for a real business. This is through a 2000 word research project investigating, analysing and solving the business problem.
