As / A2 Level Art And Design: Graphic Communication at St Michael's Catholic High School

Course description

Aims of the course:
The course units allow students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of using different techniques to communicate their ideas effectively. Throughout the two years the course aims to equip students with investigative, analytical and practical creative skills that prepare them to be successful practitioners and independent thinkers.

Course content:
Students will complete 4 units over the two years, each unit introducing them to a wide range of techniques and processes and encouraging imaginative and creative design solutions. The course gives experience of working within relevant and real life frameworks, demonstrating clear links to industry and contemporary and historical cultures, societies and techniques. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of each of the following disciplines within Graphic Communication: Typography, Advertising, Packaging, Illustration and Interactive Media. Students will have opportunities to generate practical work, ideas and research from primary and contextual sources. They will experiment with media and processes, and develop and refine their ideas, presenting their outcomes.

Entry requirements

A*- B grade GCSE Graphic Design. A*- B grade GCSE Art - subject to portfolio check.To be considered for entry onto the course you must have a proven interest in Art and Design as well as a commitment to developing your creative skills and knowledge.
