Course description

Art is a form of communication and expression: a visual language. If you choose to study A Level Art you will develop your skill and creativity as an artist and your understanding of art.

Entry requirements

Minimum of Grade B in Art at GCSE or Minimum of Distinction in Applied Art and Design

Future opportunities

Art is recognised and accepted by universities for degree courses in a range of subjects. It is essential if you wish to continue your education in painting, sculpture, printmaking, graphics, textiles and fashion and is advantageous if you wish to study Architecture, Interior Architecture or History of Art.

There are a variety of careers paths which A Level art leads to, for example Advertising, Media, Games Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, Museum Archives, Curator. The Arts and Culture economy creates 694,700 jobs across the UK, 6,910 cultural businesses contribute £28 billion each year to the UK economy. Jobs in the creative and cultural sector are expected to increase by a third by 2020.
