Brickwork Level 1 Diploma at Harlow College

Course description

This is a practical bricklaying course in which we embed as much knowledge as possible into the practical tasks you undertake. This minimises the amount of time spent in the classroom. We use a range of delivery methods, with a large proportion of E-Learning done through IPads and other learning technologies.

Course content

Core modules

Five Compulsory Units:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
  • Principles of Building in Construction
  • Carry Out Block Laying Activities
  • Carry Out Bricklaying Activities
  • Cavity Walling

Entry requirements

Ideally a minimum grade E or higher in Maths and English. If minimum grade is not met an extended interview may be needed.


  • Practical phase tests
  • Multiple choice exams

Financial information

You will be required to purchase a set of safety boots and basic stationery. All other tools and resources are provided.

Future opportunities

There are excellent progression routes to apprenticeships with a large number of our full-time students moving onto apprenticeships during their course, based on our recommendations. Skilled trades people are currently in high demand across the country. There are approximately 3 million people working in construction making it one of the biggest industries in the country and covers 10% of the total job market. The qualification we offer is globally recognised and sought after in the industry.
