Children’s Care, Learning and Development at Joseph Swan Academy

Course description

There is a growing demand for suitably qualified people to work in the Children’s sector and the variety of careers in the Children’s sector is becoming increasingly popular for young people.

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Award in Children’s Care, Learning and Development is a Level 3 qualification, developed with service providers and designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in the Children’s sector.

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Award is equivalent to one A2 level qualification and is delivered over two years. All units are assessed through course work and there is no externally assessed exam. You will study the development of an individual child over 6 - 12 months; therefore regular contact with a young child would help you achieve this more easily, but is not essential.

You will gain experience in developing positive relationships, creating positive environments, promoting children’s development and safeguarding children through class activities and supervised work placements in children’s care and learning settings.

You will be expected to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You will also complete a recognised certificate in Paediatric (children’s) First Aid.
