Applied Science BTEC Level 3 at Bradford College

Course description

For anyone who sees their future career in Science, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science is an excellent course to choose. This BTEC course covers topic areas chosen from Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There are no external exams as it is coursework based, which means that you have a clear understanding of your progress throughout the course. Much of your work will be based around experiments and practical work in well furbished laboratories and workshops. In addition, carrying out investigations and working safely and skilfully are key parts of the course.

Course content

The course consists of 18 Units; six Core Units plus 12 Specialist Units, and is taken over two years. It is equivalent to three A levels.

On completion of one year of study, you will be eligible for the BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Applied Science. This qualification is equivalent to 1.5 A levels.
On completion of the full two years of study, you will be eligible for the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science, which is equivalent to three A levels.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade C or above including GCSE Core + Additional Science or GCSE in two single Science subjects, Mathematics and English. A BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science at Merit level may also be accepted instead of GCSE Science but you must have GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.

Progression from Year One to Year Two is dependent upon you passing all Units in the 90-Credit Diploma as well as meeting acceptable levels of attendance, punctuality, behaviour and performance at AS level.

Assessment

All Units will be assessed via the completion of assignments based on work done in class and your own research.

You must pass all the Units to be awarded the Extended Diploma.
