Geography AS/A2 Level at Kings Priory School

Course description

At Kings Priory School we adopt a modern approach to A level Geography following the AQA syllabus which embraces many contemporary issues presenting challenges which require careful thought about how we live in this rapidly shrinking world of resources and increasingly volatile viewpoints.

Students following Geography at both ‘A’ level and GCSE have the opportunity of taking part in our foreign excursions.

Course content

At AS level pupils study physical processes including both fluvial and glacial environments alongside more behavioural aspects such as the geography of health and its gross imbalances across the globe. Pupils also complete a piece of challenging yet enjoyable rivers fieldwork in the Lake District.

A2 Geography adopts an issues approach. All options include contemporary themes. Topics covered include ’Plate tectonics and associated hazards’ which asks among other questions ’Is the world becoming a more hazardous place to live?’ Pupils also study ’Contemporary conflicts and challenges’ focussing on conflicts in the Middle East and global terrorism, a topic that consistently intrigues and interests pupils.
