BTEC LEVEL 3 NATIONAL EXTENDED CERTIFICATE IN SPORT at The Lenham School

Course description

The BTEC in Sport is a two year course which provides a comprehensive introduction to the study of Sport. You will develop an understanding of the sports industry by exploring the different skills required for different career pathways into the industry. Additionally, you will study Fitness Training as well as the Anatomy and Physiology of the body. The course is designed for post-16 students who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the Sports Industries, as part of a programme of study alongside other BTECs or A levels. The BTEC is both examination and coursework based with four units designed to cover a wide range of academic and vocational skills. You will research fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing and will analyse the results to support improvements in a client’s health and wellbeing. You will learn the functions of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems and explore the effects of exercise on these systems.

Unit 3: Professional Development in Sport

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Level 4 or above (A*-C equivalent), including English Lit or Lang at grade 4 and Maths at Level 4. Subject specific results will also be considered when choosing this course.

Assessment

The course is unit based and each unit is given a credit value depending on the guided learning hours. At the start of each unit you will receive an assignment brief detailing the tasks and criteria to be met. At the end of each unit you will be given a grade of pass, merit or distinction.

If you are dedicated and hard-working, your academic and vocational experience could lead you into a career in teaching, coaching, sport science, physiotherapy, events management, army careers, personal training, gym instruction, fitness instruction or journalism.
