Physical Education at The Pingle School

Course description

What will I learn on this course?

The AS level course covers:

 application of anatomical and physiological knowledge to improve performance.

 acquiring, performing and teaching movement skills.

 contemporary studies in physical education.

 performance in two different areas and its improvement through analysis.

The A2 course covers:

 the history of sport.

 sport psychology.

 exercise and sport physiology.

 the improvement of effective performance in one sport.

 the evaluation and appreciation in the improvement of performance.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by examination (70%).

 AS level is one examination of 2 hours.

 A2 level is one examination of 2 hours 30 minutes.

Coursework (30%) based on practical activities.

The activity areas are: athletics, combat, dance, invasion games, net/wall games, striking/fielding games, target games, gymnastics, outdoor and adventurous activities, swimming activities and safe and effective exercise activities.

Additional activities are currently being approved and can be used for assessment.

Entry requirements

A GCSE in physical education at grade C or above, GCSE additional science grade C or above and an interest in sport.
