UAL Art & Design Diploma Level 1 at Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)

Course description

This course is for those that are interested to start in Art & Design. You will spend a lot of time in specialist studios and workshops. You will learn about the creative industries and possible job roles. You will learn how to research and develop design ideas and produce finished designs and models. There will be opportunities to take part in research trips locally and to other cities. The creative industries cover a wide range of art and design skills and you will begin to develop these skills along with developing more general skills in English, Maths and Social Development.

UAL Awarding Body is the only specialist art, design and creative industries awarding organisation in England. They support the creative industries across the UK by helping to develop the workforce of the future. They pride themselves on their knowledge of the sector and the quality and integrity of the qualifications they design and award. Birmingham Metropolitan College and Stourbridge College are the only provider of UAL qualifications in Central England.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Entry will be by interview with an art and design portfolio.

Assessment

Assessment is 100% coursework with regular verbal and written feedback. You will produce practical work, evidence folders, sketchbooks and a final art portfolio.

Future opportunities

After completion you can progress on to level 2 course in Art & Design. You will have the opportunity to improve English, maths and employability skills to prepare for work or apprenticeship opportunities.

    • Sutton Coldfield Campus provides a green and leafy environment for learners to study. The campus includes a state of the art library and learning resource centre, a performing arts theatre, an industry standard design studio as well as laboratory and sports facilities. There are ample parking spaces on site and great transportation links - both bus and train - just 15 minutes from Birmingham City Centre.
