Biology A Level at Grimsby Institute

Course description

Biology is the study of life.

If you are interested in how your body works or if you've ever thought about cloning humans, how to save the environment or you're curious about the interactions of living organisms then biology is the course for you.

It combines well with maths, psychology or chemistry and is essential if you are interested in a career in health & medical industries.

Course content

You will build on the learning you undertook at GCSE level and you will study a range of interesting topics, such as cell structure, exchange and transport systems in animals and plants, biochemistry, biodiversity, the nervous system, food & health, ecology & evolution.

Entry requirements

  • At least 8 GCSEs including English and Maths
  • An average point score appropriate for your chosen pathway from all your GCSE subjects

Future opportunities

A Level Biology will allow you to progress to university or employment in a range of areas including working in the microbiological field, pharmaceutical industry, hospital laboratories, nutritional industries, working with animals, research laboratories and environmental areas.

If you wish to study medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, physiotherapy or other medical-related degrees biology is a key subject to study.
