Course description

 

For those who have enjoyed GCSE Mathematics, A-Level is the obvious next step. A highly regarded A Level by any university, Mathematics helps students to develop a unique approach to problem solving, creative thinking and independent learning.

You will soon discover that what you have learnt in Year 11 is only the start of true Mathematics- get ready to experience a whole new world!

Course content

 

AS modules/units

Core 1 and 2 – These continually expands on the work from the GCSE Higher course as well as bringing in new ideas. Statistics – Learn how probability and data measures can be used within problem solving.

A2 modules/units

Core 3 and 4 – These modules build on the new concepts encountered in Y12.

Decision Maths 1 – A new and unusual collection of practical methods for solving real problems.

Entry requirements

 

Grade B in GCSE Mathematics.

AS Assessment

100% examination (33.3% Core 1, 33.3% Core 2, 33.3% Statistics)

 

A2 Assessment

100% examination (33.3% Core 3, 33.3% Core 4, 33.3% Decision 1)

Future opportunities

 

Through the skills you develop throughout the course, Mathematics A level is great preparation for a variety of courses in further education. Many students continue their studies on to a degree in Mathematics, and this would make you attractive to a range of employers in areas such as finance, economics, engineering, physical sciences, and many more.

Even if University isn’t for you, the problem solving skills and confidence this A Level will provide you is likely to put you "one step up" in many careers.
