Accounting - As and A2 at Downend School

Course description

AS / A2 Accounting is an exciting course if you are focused on further study or a career in accounting, banking or business, is a great choice for you. This accounting course will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to assess the performance of all different types of business organisations. It will enable you to effectively analyse and evaluate financial decisions so you can make judgements, decisions and recommendations about how businesses can manage their financial affairs.


Unit 1: Introduction to Financial Accounting

In this first module you will learn about key accounting records like ledgers, balance sheets and profit & loss accounts. This unit is assessed by an examination which will consist of 4 compulsory questions.

Unit 2: Financial and Management Accounting

In this module you will learn about accounting for sole traders and for limited companies, final accounts, budgetary controls and the impact of technology on accounting. This unit is assessed by an examination which will consist of 4 compulsory questions.


Unit 3: Further Aspects of Financial Accounting

In financial accounting you will investigate sources of finance, partnership and limited company accounts, plus accounting standards.

Unit 4: Further Aspects of Management Accounting

In management accounting you’ll move on to manufacturing accounts, costing, capital investments, budgeting and social accounting.

Entry requirements

AS: Grade C in GCSE English and grade B in GCSE Maths

A2: Grade D in AS Accounting
