Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy at The Thetford Academy

Course description

GENERAL AIMS: To gain an understanding of the Art of

Hairdressing and Professional Make-up application, in

addition to gaining the skills required for the industry.

COURSE OUTLINE: The VTCT level 2 Diploma in Hair and

Beauty services (QCF) has been specifically designed to

develop practical skills in; working on salon reception,

the creative art of dressing hair and applying makeup,

how to create an effective hair and beauty image,

provide shampooing and conditioning services, how

to colour hair using temporary and semi-permanent

colour or the intricate work of manicure or pedicures:

NATURE OF STUDY: The nature of the study will be

research and practical work in the purpose-built hair

and beauty salon. This will be on paying clients who

come into the salon or simulated using a block or on

other students in the group. You will also have a number

of assignments and external papers in each unit.

Entry requirements

Sixth Form Entry

Year 12

A Levels

5 A*-C at GCSE, including a C in English + Mathematics,

with a B grade in the chosen subject areas for A Level.

BTEC Level 3

4 A*-C, preferably including a C in English + Mathematics.

BTEC Level 2

2 D grades.

Year 13

Each student’s work is reviewed at the end of

Year 12 and progress into Year 13 is dependent on

satisfactory performance in the examinations.
