Music A level at Davenant Foundation School

Course description

What will you learn?

The course is laid out to continue in the development of your skills from GCSE in Performance, Composition and Analysis.

You will be expected to produce a recital performance of at least 10 minutes of on one or more instruments of at least Grade 7 standard.

You will compose a free composition over the two years as well as developing your harmony and theory knowledge in order to complete a 4-part harmony and counterpoint exercise in the style of J.S. Bach.

You will engage critically with a wide range of music and musical contexts, ranging from Baroque Chamber music, Opera, Film music, Jazz and Pop as well as Indian and Electronic genres. Students will be give then opportunity to reflect on, analyse and evaluate music in aural and written form.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s including English language and Mathematics at A*-C (or 4-9), Grade 6 or above at GCSE Music.

Further information

With the Edexcel Music A Level qualification, students can continue with their Music at University or a Conservatoire. It can also be beneficial for those students who wish to pursue a career in music, either on an apprenticeship in the music industry, or as a performer.
