IT BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Southport College

Course description

Level 2 Diploma courses are designed to provide work-related qualifications. They have been developed to provide school leavers with a preparation for employment and to provide career development for those already in work. 

The Level 2 Diploma in IT is for those seeking employment in a variety of IT and technical jobs. It provides opportunities for you to gain a nationally recognised qualification to enter employment in IT or progress to a higher qualification such as the BTEC Level 3 Diploma.

Course content

You will study a range of subject areas including: 
• Using IT to present information 
• Website development 
• Database and spreadsheet software 
• Mobile communication 
• Security and ICT systems 
• ICT graphics 
You may also study for an additional qualification in Employability Skills. 
If you are between 16-18 years you will also study Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT. Functional Skills are recognised and valued by employers and universities. 

Entry requirements

• 3 GCSEs at grade D or Level 1 Diploma in related subject 
• Successful interview 
• Satisfactory reference 


Most units are assessed by a series of assignments, applying theory, concepts and acquired knowledge to realistic scenarios

Future opportunities

Students who are successful on the course may progress to a level 3 IT course.
