Course content

Unit 1 - Investigating Business - This unit provides the opportunity to understand the different types of businesses - their aims and objectives/how they organise themselves/the departments that make up a business/the students will also learn about how outside influences affect the decisions that businesses make.Unit 2 - People and Business - One of the most valuable resources of any business is its people.  Students will investigate the different roles played by people  - employers and employees, their responsibilities and rights/recruitment and training.Unit 3 - Business Finance - This unit concerns the area of finance and looks at such things as:- costs/revenue and profitStudents will learn how to - identify the different elements of business finance/draw up a profile and loss account/estimate future costs and revenues/calculate at what point a business starts to make a profit.

Assessment

Candidates have to fully complete three units of work overall.  They produce folders of work which are evidence to the examiners that all of the areas have been covered in the first two units.  Students also have to successfully complete one externally set examination to pass the third unit of study.
