Geography AS at Swinton Academy
All students will follow the AQA Specification A. The subject content of the syllabus is based on components of Physical Geography and Human Geography. They will be studied at a variety of scales and for different levels of development. Paper 1 covers aspects of human and Physical Geography. Units covered include : Rivers, Coasts , Population and Energy Issues.Paper 2 tests your Geographical Skills. The course offers an opportunity for students to •Acquire knowledge and understanding on a range of places •Develop a sense of place and an appreciation of the environment •Develop an understanding of global citizenship •Appreciate that geography is dynamic •Understand a variety of values and attitudes and acquire skills and techniques for mapwork, fieldwork and ICT We pride ourselves in the number of successive years with 100% pass rate at A 2 and therefore also work hard with the students to add value. Swinton Geographers’ develop into enthusiastic eco- friendly citizens with an awareness of the world around them, as evidenced by the numbers going to University to read the subject. The broad based course offered by AQA A is delivered by a team of experienced staff, each specialising in a branch of the subject.
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE, which could lead onto higher education to study geography, other areas of humanities, science or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to geography such as a Town Planner, Environmental Officer or Weather Forecaster. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
