Animal Care BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

A one - year programme providing knowledge and understanding to support effective and efficient working practices. It will promote and encourage good working practices in relation to a range of animal care skills and develop competent practical skills that will support those seeking a career in the animal care industry. 

Course content

This qualification covers a range of mandatory and optional units: 

  • Work Experience (150 hours - Mandatory) 
  • Maintain Animal Accommodation 
  • Undertake Practical Animal Feeding 
  • Maintain Animal health and Welfare 
  • Animal Behaviour and Handling 
  • Animal Biology 
  • Breeds and grooming

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs Grade D or above, one preferably in a science; previous expereince with animals is desirable.

Assessment

Practical demonstration, portfolio of evidence and assignment.

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course will enable progression to a Level 3 qualification, potential employment into animal care areas such as dog grooming, pet shop assistant, the RSPCA, zoo keeping.
