German A Level at Lymm High Voluntary Controlled School
AS: Media (TV, advertising and communication technology), popular culture (cinema, music and fashion), healthy lifestyles (sport, exercise, health and holidays) and family and relationships (family, friendship, marriage and partnerships)
A2: the environment, immigration and integration, racism, poverty and wealth, technology and the future, as well as a book (The Diary of Anne Frank) and a historical topic (Germany between 1961 and 1989) Throughout both years of study there will be an emphasis on grammar and translation, as well as focus on listening, reading, writing and speaking.
5 GCSEs at A*- C You must achieve a minimum of a B at GCSE German and you must have sat the higher paper for both listening and reading.
There are two exams at the end of Year 12: One exam comprising listening, reading and writing, and one oral exam. The oral exam is worth approx. 30%, as is the written component of the other exam. There are a further two exams at the end of Year 13 which follow the same format. There is no coursework element.
