Business and Administration BTEC Level 1 Diploma at City of Westminster College

Course description

This is a full time Level 1 Business qualification at pre-GCSE level.

It provides a good foundation in Business and a progression route into the Business course at level 2, for which the level 1 Diploma is required.

Entry requirements

You may have obtained a number of GCSEs at grades from E to G. However, acceptance onto the course will also depend on your demonstrating an acceptable level of competence in English language. You will also need a suitable reference from a teacher or employer. Students who have no formal qualifications will be assessed for entry by means of written tests in English and Maths. Support classes will be recommended for those students who need to improve their language or numeracy skills in order to benefit from the course.

Applicants will be interviewed by a Business tutor, to assess their suitability for the course. As part of the interview your reference will be considered and you will be asked questions about your previous qualifications, experiences and interests in the industry. If you already have any qualifications or school/college reports, please bring them to your interview.

Assessment

Most of the units are assessed internally by means of assignments, which are based on practical "hands on" tasks taught in the context of real jobs and careers in the business sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in that sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills. All of the assignments are externally moderated by Edexcel and an overall grade of a Pass will be awarded upon completion of the course.

Future opportunities

Students who pass may progress onto a level 2 qualifications such as a level 2 Diploma in Business. Students would also be able to gain entry to employment at an appropriate level within business.
