Food & Beverage Service C&G Level 2 Diploma at Macclesfield College

Course description

This course may be for you if you have a keen interest in a practical career in the hospitality industry and have good communication and interpersonal skills. The course combines practical work with related theory in the food and beverage service. You will also cover the essential training required to work as a chef in the catering and hospitality industry. For this course you will need to have a passion for people and be enthusiastic about food. 

Course content

During the course you will study both compulsory and optional units such as:

  • Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment 
  • Prepare and clear areas for table service 
  • Serve food at the table
  • Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
  • Maintain and deal with payments
  • Prepare and serve dispensed and hot drinks

Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade C or above. If you have achieved a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.

Entry requirements

For this course you will need to have achieved either a Level 1 Certificate in Food Preparation and Cooking or a Level 1 Certificate in Hospitality Services. 

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.

Assessment

You will be assessed in the Silk Room restarant where you will over the course of the year build a portfolio of evidence practically. Each unit will have an element of written underpinning knowledge questions completed as the course progresses.

GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

Financial information

You will be required to purchase a basic restaurant uniform and you will be advised of this and the cost at your admissions interview.
