Sport and Active Leisure BTEC Diploma Level 1 at York College
The programme content includes a comprehensive introduction into the health, fitness and sports industry. Students will investigate how the body works and how to plan and take part in improving their own fitness and that of others. Students will also investigate the sports industry and how to lead sporting activities as well as assist in organising and running a sports event. Focus will be given to exploring job opportunities in the sports industry and the skills required to work in the industry such as assessing risks and hazards and dealing with accidents and emergency situations.
You will be expected to complete Functional Skills in Maths and English to give you the best opportunity of gaining employment or continuing to a higher level course.

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade E, one of which must be English (grade 2+). Students should also have a genuine interest in taking part in sport and the sports industry.
The assessment will involve a range of both written assignments and practical observations by your tutor. As part of your tutorial programme your course tutor will provide you with the help
and guidance necessary to complete any assignments and structure your practical assessments.
Depending on the level you achieve on your initial assessment at the start of the course you may be required to sit a computer based exam for the Functional Skills units of the course.
Upon successful completion of this course you may wish to progress to the Level 2 Diploma course in Sport or the Level 2 Diploma course in Public Services. (This is also subject to a good course report and recommendation from your course tutor). Some students may wish to pursue entry to employment in the sports and fitness industry.
