Performing Arts Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Epping Forest College

Course description

This exciting & enjoyable BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to enter upon a career in the Performing Arts and/or progression to Higher Education (HE).

This course will give you the opportunity to study and develop the skills and disciplines needed to perform on stage or screen. Students will explore a range of styles and techniques including: Classical Theatre, Contemporary Theatre and Musical theatre

You will visit theatres in the West End and in local & regional venues. You will take part in local & national events & competitions. You will take part in our departmental Industry Weeks and be led & directed by visiting professionals. You will have the opportunity to go on residential trips within the UK and a week long trip to a European destination.

Course content

You will study units including:

  • Performing to an audience
  • Principles of acting
  • Acting for auditions.
  • Musical theatre performance
  • Singing
  • Classical Theatre

English and Maths are required life skills. As part of your study programme we will support you towards an A*–C grade at GCSE English and Maths. If you’ve already got these grades, we will work with you to develop your skills further.

As part of your study programme you will be given the opportunity to build skills required for employment through workshops and will be expected to undertake work experience with local businesses, councils or voluntary organisations.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at A*–C including English Language, or Merit /Distinction at an appropriate Level 2 Diploma and GCSE English Language at grade A*–C.

Assessment

​Through coursework & portfolio work and in rehearsals & performances. Many performances will be public.

Financial information

You will be required to wear stage blacks. You will need to wear black leggings or joggers and black non marking soled trainers. Your material fees will cover some stage blacks; T Shirts x2 Noddy Stationary Kit

Future opportunities

​Students can progress to Drama School or University for further training in Acting, Musical Theatre, Stage Management, Directing or Drama & Performing Arts. Students may wish to go straight into the industry via an agent & auditioning.

      Epping Forest College is the ideal venue to stage your event.

      The College is easily accessed by less then 10 minutes drive from both the M25 and M11 motorways.

      We’re also a 5 minute walk from the London Underground at Debden Station on the Central Line, 
      and we’re a 10 minute cab ride from Chingford Overground rail station.

      Once you arrive at the College there is a free car park with over 250 spaces, 
      as well as designated areas for coaches and other large vehicles.

       

      Once on site you can have access to our catering facilities (subject to agreement) and a range of rooms, 
      from our Theatre, with 264 retractable seats, to a standard classroom.

      We also have full IT support, and can offer rooms with either Macs or PCs running the latest industry-standard software.
