Physical Education AS and A Level at The Oxford Academy
Course description
Students of AS/A Level Physical Education extend their strong academic performance in GCSE PE and Science through an in depth study of human performance and sport. You will already be participating in at least one sport at an excellent standard.
PE SUPPORT FROM OXFORD UNITED Across all elements of this course you will be supported to explore your learning outcomes through practical experience:
- Work with qualified coaches to learn how to optimise performance by working with an Oxford United Development Team
- Develop and deliver opportunities for people to lead a healthy and active lifestyle
- Work with professionals to analyse and evaluate physical activity
- Gain real coaching and officiating experience with Oxford United Community Trust
Course content
The four unit specification covers a range of topics allowing you to further develop and extend your understanding of human performance in sport. The elements covered over the two year course are:
- Anatomy physiology
- Sport psychology
- Sports sociology
- Skill acquisition
- Sports performance
- Performance analysis
- Practical performance
Participating in a sport at an excellent standard will enable you to apply your knowledge to give you access to the higher grades.

- Sports Psychology
- Education
- Sport Science
- Coaching
- Sports massage therapy
- Sports trainer
- Sports management
Entry requirements
5 A*-C including English and Maths level 5, with a minimum grade B in GCSE PE and Science
Future opportunities
There are also opportunities for further study in any of these fields, with an A Level in Physical Education.
