Physical Education AS A2 at The Rushden Community College

Course content

Unit 1 - The social basis of sport and recreation. Unit 2 - Enhancing performance. In this unit students are required to participate in a minimum of 3 activities, one from each of the team, racquet and individual categories. Unit 3 - Exercise and training. Unit 4 - Global trends in international sport. Unit 5 - Refining performance. Unit 6 - Scientific principles of exercise and performance. Each student will be examined in two practical activities which will be carried forward into Unit 5 for A2.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades C or above. Students also need to have a good level of practical ability in team games, racquet games and individual activities. AS one year, A2 two years.

Assessment

AS: 2 modules - Unit 1 - written paper, Unit 2 - coursework

A2: 2 modules - Unit 3 - written paper, Unit 4 - Coursework

Further information

All students are expected to undertake CSLA along with coaching and officiating awards during Wednesday afternoon sessions, and take a lead role in the College sporting activities.
