Introduction To Motor Vehicle Maintenance at North Lindsey College

Course description

The aim of this course is to prepare learners for a Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance.
As part of the course learners will gain some of the practical skills needed to work in a vehicle fitting environment whilst enhancing their Maths and English levels to maximise their employment potential. Students will study all the major systems on a modern vehicle as well as the different job roles available within the motor vehicle industry.

Course content

The course covers the following units:

- Award:
- Health & Safety
- Introduction to Retail Motor Industry
- Workshop Tools and Equipment

- Certificate:
- Award plus Motor Vehicle
- 1 unit at Level 1
- 5 units at Entry Level 3

- Diploma:
- Introduction to Vehicle Technology
- 6 units at Entry Level 3

18 Units in total.

These activities will be based in the College's well-equipped vehicle workshop.

Entry requirements

Students will typically have GCSEs in Maths and English at grades F-G but applicants may also have no formal qualifications.


Students performance will be measured by a combination of verbal tests, on-line and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

Students wanting to progress onto a full-time course may be considered for a main Vehicle Maintenance programme or possible progression to an apprenticeship programme.
